Technical SEO: Crawling, Indexing and Speed
Technical SEO is the infrastructure work that lets search engines crawl your site completely, index it correctly and serve it fast. Crawl budget, index coverage, site speed, Core Web Vitals, redirects, structured data and mobile compliance are all in scope. However good the content, a page that cannot be crawled cannot rank, which is why the work starts with an audit.
// Who is technical SEO for?
Technical SEO is for sites that have content but do not get the Google positions they expect, or that keep accumulating errors in Search Console. The problem is rarely in one place: duplicate pages, wrong redirects, a slow server and missing schema act together, and until each is measured separately nobody knows which one dominates. If any of the following sounds familiar, you are on the right page.
- Search Console shows "Crawled, currently not indexed" or "Redirect error" warnings
- The site was redesigned or migrated and traffic fell afterwards
- The Core Web Vitals report shows red and orange pages
- On a large e-commerce or news site, pages are indexed late or not at all
We apply the same audit method to a corporate site and a 50,000-product store; only the crawl time and the number of findings change.
// What is included and what is not
The work is bought as a one-off audit-and-fix project or as a monthly technical monitoring plan. The table below lists what each includes and what stays outside, line by line. We write the exclusions up front so there are no surprises at the quote stage and so it is clear which job belongs to which service.
| Work | Audit + fixes | Monthly monitoring |
|---|---|---|
| Full site crawl and error inventory | Included | Included |
| Index coverage and crawl budget analysis | Included | Included |
| Redirect, duplicate content and canonical fixes | Included | Included |
| Site speed and Core Web Vitals improvement | Included | Included |
| Structured data (schema) setup and validation | Included | Included |
| XML sitemap and robots.txt configuration | Included | Included |
| Mobile compliance and HTTPS checks | Included | Included |
| Monthly re-crawl and Search Console tracking | Excluded | Included |
| Content writing and keyword research | Excluded | Excluded |
| Backlink and authority work | Excluded | Excluded |
| Server change and migration | Priced separately | Priced separately |
The content side is covered under content SEO and the authority side under off-page SEO.
// How does it work and how long does it take?
The process has four steps and takes 5 to 10 business days for a typical corporate site; on large stores the crawl alone can take 2 days. The audit report is in your hands within the first week and fixes are applied in priority order; results appear in Search Console within 4 to 8 weeks.
Crawl and audit (2 to 3 days)
The site is crawled end to end, combined with Search Console and server logs, and findings are ranked by priority
Priority meeting (half a day)
Findings are reviewed with you or your developer and responsibilities are written down
Fixes (3 to 5 days)
Redirect, canonical, speed, schema and sitemap corrections are applied
Verification and report (1 day)
The site is re-crawled and a before/after table plus a Search Console tracking plan are delivered
// How is the price determined?
Three variables set the price: number of pages, the site's platform (WordPress, custom code, e-commerce platform) and who applies the fixes. A 30-page WordPress site and a 40,000-product custom-coded store do not carry the same workload, so we quote after a preliminary crawl rather than from a fixed list. The preliminary crawl is free and the quote is fixed once it is done.
If your own developer applies the fixes, only the audit and verification are charged. Monthly monitoring has no contract. For customers on the Zep Bilisim SEO plan, this audit is included.
// Results we have delivered
The three cases below represent different technical faults. We do not share client names without permission, so sector and scale are given instead; figures come from Search Console and analytics data. In all three, the content did not change; only the infrastructure was fixed, and the result was measured within 6 to 10 weeks.
- Furniture store, 12,000 products — Filter pages were generating 180,000 duplicate URLs; canonical and robots rules brought indexed pages down to 9,400 and organic clicks rose 41%
- Law firm, 60 pages — After a redesign 214 old addresses returned 404; a redirect map brought the lost traffic back in 5 weeks
- News site — LCP fell from 4.8 seconds to 1.9 seconds and the red pages in the Core Web Vitals report went to zero
The cause of a ranking drop is usually not a competitor's better content but the half of your own site that cannot be crawled.
// The team behind the work
The work is carried out by Caner Zep Çelik, founder of Zep Bilisim. As founder and technical consultant he has worked on search visibility, server configuration and web infrastructure since 2020 and has been involved in more than 100 projects. He does the crawl and the Search Console analysis himself and does not outsource the work.
The audit report is written by the same person: for every finding, what it is, where it is, why it matters and how to fix it. The report is written so your developer can apply it directly, and it stays with you.
// When is it not needed?
If Search Console shows no errors, Core Web Vitals are green and pages are indexed within days, technical SEO work is unnecessary; we say so plainly in the preliminary crawl and do not sell it. If the problem is weak content or missing authority, technical fixes will not move rankings; the preliminary report says so separately and points you to the right service.
For a brochure site of a few pages with no slowness, a one-off short check is enough; we do not recommend monthly monitoring.
For on-page adjustments see on-page SEO, and for the starting report that covers every area see SEO audit and analytics. Schema setup is described separately under structured data. Google's Search Essentials explains the technical requirements for crawling and indexing from the official source.
// Frequently Asked Questions
No. Speed is one part of technical SEO; technical SEO also covers crawling, indexing, redirects, duplicate content, schema and mobile compliance. For WordPress sites whose only problem is speed there is a narrower speed optimization service; the preliminary crawl tells you plainly which one you need.
After the fixes are applied, Google needs to re-crawl and re-evaluate the site; changes in index coverage and clicks typically appear in Search Console within 4 to 8 weeks. On large sites it can take up to 12 weeks. The tracking plan states which metric to check in which week and is handed to you.
Two options: on WordPress and any system you give us access to, we apply the fixes ourselves; on custom-coded or enterprise systems we hand your developer a report written in implementation order and do the verification. In the second option only the audit and verification are charged; you decide which route suits you.
Read access to Search Console is enough for the audit; the site is crawled from outside. If we apply the fixes, we need admin panel or server access; you can create a separate limited user and delete it when the work is done. Which access is needed for what is listed item by item in the quote and removed once the work ends.
No; Google decides rankings, and anyone who guarantees them is either mistaken or misleading you. What we commit to are measurable technical targets: number of indexed pages, error count, Core Web Vitals status. These targets are written in the quote and verified with a before/after report; if a target is missed, the reason is shown plainly in the report.
On sites that add content, change products or ship code frequently, yes; every change can introduce a new technical error and Search Console shows it weeks later. On small sites updated a few times a year it is not needed; a short check every 6 months is enough, and we say so in the preliminary crawl.
