AI Search Optimization: Visibility in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity
AI search optimization is the work of getting your brand cited as a source in AI answer engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. AI bot access to the site, citable content structure, structured data, brand mentions and platform-level visibility measurement are all in scope. The goal is for your name to appear inside the answer when a customer asks an AI assistant their question.
// Who is AI search optimization for?
AI search optimization is for businesses in sectors where customers ask ChatGPT or Gemini before deciding: service firms, B2B software, healthcare, education, e-commerce. Being on page one of Google does not guarantee a mention in an AI answer; answer engines weigh different signals and pick different sources. If any of the following sounds familiar, you are on the right page.
- When you ask ChatGPT about your sector, competitors are listed and you are not
- You do not appear as a source in the Google AI Overviews box
- Your robots.txt blocks AI bots, or does not address them at all
- Your traffic report has no line for AI-driven visits; nothing is measured
We apply the same method to a local service firm and a national brand; only the number of tracked questions and the platform list change.
// What is included and what is not
The service comes as an initial project or a monthly tracking plan. The table below lists what each includes and what stays outside, line by line. This page describes the umbrella service; its components, content structuring, schema setup and brand visibility, are described in detail on separate pages and can be bought individually when needed.
| Work | Initial project | Monthly tracking |
|---|---|---|
| AI visibility scan (5 platforms, 30 questions) | Included | Included |
| AI bot access: robots.txt, llms.txt, crawl blockers | Included | Included |
| Citable content structuring (first 10 pages) | Included | Excluded |
| Structured data (Organization, FAQ, Service schema) | Included | Included |
| Brand mention sources and consistency | Included | Included |
| Monthly AI visibility measurement and report | Excluded | Included |
| New content recommendations (questions AI leaves unanswered) | Excluded | Included |
| Structuring beyond 10 pages | Priced separately | Priced separately |
| Writing new content | Priced separately | Priced separately |
| Classic Google ranking work | Excluded | Excluded |
| Advertising and sponsored placement | Excluded | Excluded |
Classic rankings are planned separately under SEO services; the two usually run together.
// How does it work and how long does it take?
The initial project takes 3 to 4 weeks; monthly tracking then runs as a cycle. AI platforms process content at a different pace from Google: access fixes show within 2 to 4 weeks, content structure changes within 4 to 8 weeks. Measurement is repeated every month with the same 30 questions and reported comparatively.
Scan (1 week)
30 questions about your sector are asked on 5 platforms; who is mentioned, which source is shown and where you stand are recorded
Access (2 to 3 days)
Whether AI bots are blocked is checked; robots.txt and llms.txt are configured
Content and schema (1 to 2 weeks)
The first 10 pages are restructured for citability; schema is set up and validated
Brand sources (1 week)
External sources that describe your brand consistently are listed and gaps filled
Measurement and reporting (monthly)
The same 30 questions are asked again; mention rate and source citations are reported
// How is the price determined?
Three variables set the price: number of questions and platforms tracked, number of pages restructured and how competitive the sector is. A service firm tracking 30 questions and an e-commerce brand tracking 200 do not carry the same workload, so we quote from the AI visibility scan rather than a fixed list. The scan is free and the quote is fixed once it is done.
Monthly tracking has no contract. For customers on the Zep Bilisim SEO plan, the AI visibility scan is included; content structuring is shown per page.
// Results we have delivered
The three cases below represent different sectors. We do not share client names without permission, so sector and scale are given instead; figures come from monthly measurements with the same question set. In all three, before-and-after measurements used the same 30 questions on the same platforms and were tracked in the Zep Bilisim monthly report.
- Law firm — Mentioned in 2 of 30 questions; 10 weeks after access and content structuring, cited as a source in 14
- B2B software company — robots.txt blocked every AI bot; 6 weeks after the fix it began appearing in Perplexity and ChatGPT answers, and AI-driven visits rose from 0 to 340 a month
- Dental clinic — A source in 0 Google AI Overviews questions; FAQ schema and question-answer structure made it a source in 9 within 3 months
Not being mentioned in an AI answer is not like dropping in rankings; the customer never learns you exist.
// The team behind the work
The work is carried out by Caner Zep Çelik, founder of Zep Bilisim. As founder and technical consultant he has worked on search visibility, content structure and web infrastructure since 2020 and has been involved in more than 100 projects. He runs the AI visibility scan, the access configuration and the content structuring himself and does not outsource the work.
The monthly report is written by the same person: which platform mentioned you in which question, which page was cited, and where competitors stand. The report stays with you as the record of AI visibility.
// When is it not needed?
If customer decisions in your sector are not put to an AI, for example in purely local and urgent needs, the return is limited; we say so plainly in the scan and point you to local SEO. If the site has no content worth citing, content comes first; an AI does not cite an empty page, and we set that order accordingly.
A site with no Google visibility at all needs a classic SEO foundation first; the two are planned together.
Google's AI features and your website documentation explains from the official source which technical requirements govern appearing as a source in AI Overviews.
// Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Answer engines pick the sources that give the clearest, most verifiable answer to a specific question; they weigh citability, brand consistency and bot access more than rankings. A page at position 1 on Google may never be mentioned in ChatGPT. The two efforts complement each other; measurement and method are separate and reported separately.
The standard scan covers ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Bing Copilot; platforms can be added by sector. The same 30 questions are asked on every platform and the brands mentioned, sources shown and your position are recorded. Measurement is repeated monthly with the same question set, which is agreed with you.
Many sites block AI bots without knowing it; security plugins or old rules reject crawlers such as GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot. A blocked site can never be cited in any answer. The access step lists the status of every bot; you decide which ones to allow and we write the reasoning.
Access fixes take effect within 2 to 4 weeks; content structure changes take 4 to 8 weeks depending on the platform. Perplexity reacts fastest, ChatGPT slowest. The monthly report tracks mention rate per question; the target for the first 3 months is written in the quote after the scan and progress is shown in the report.
We cannot edit the answer directly, but wrong information usually comes from inconsistent or outdated external sources. The brand sources step finds them, requests corrections and makes sure the correct information sits on your site in clear, structured form. Corrections reach the platforms within 4 to 8 weeks and are tracked in the report.
If the site has no Google visibility, yes; AI platforms also draw on the web index and an uncrawled page cannot be a source. For sites already doing well on Google, this work is enough on its own. The scan measures both sides separately and writes which one comes first; the decision is yours.
