Answer Engine Optimization (AEO): Becoming the Direct Answer
Answer Engine Optimization is the work of making search engines and AI assistants answer a user's question directly with the answer taken from your site. Featured snippets, "People also ask" boxes, voice assistant answers and AI answer boxes are the targets. The method is to write a clear 40 to 60 word answer for each question and mark it up with the right heading and schema.
// Who is Answer Engine Optimization for?
Answer Engine Optimization is for businesses in sectors where customers ask questions before deciding and want the answer without clicking: healthcare, law, finance, technical services, education. A growing share of searches ends without a click; a site that is not in the answer box loses the customer even while ranking. If any of the following sounds familiar, you are on the right page.
- You are on page one but a competitor holds the featured snippet
- You do not appear in "People also ask" boxes for your sector's questions
- Voice assistants read out a competitor's answer
- Your pages contain the questions, but the answers are buried in paragraphs
We apply the same answer structure to service pages, guides and support articles; only the number of questions and the sector's language change.
// What is included and what is not
The work runs per question; it starts with a 30-question package and expands when needed. The table below lists what the standard package includes and what stays outside, line by line. Answers are placed on existing pages or published as new question-and-answer pages; which route is chosen is written with reasons in the question analysis and submitted for your approval.
| Work | Standard package (30 questions) |
|---|---|
| Question research: real queries, "People also ask" data, customer questions | Included |
| A 40 to 60 word direct answer per question | Included |
| Placing answers on existing pages or opening Q&A pages | Included |
| Question heading (H2/H3) and answer paragraph structure | Included |
| FAQPage, HowTo and Speakable schema setup | Included |
| Table and step-list answers where appropriate | Included |
| Short conversational answer version for voice search | Included |
| Snippet and box measurement 8 weeks after publication | Included |
| More than 30 questions | Priced separately |
| Long-form guide writing | Priced separately |
| Backlink and authority work | Excluded |
| Ad placement | Excluded |
Long-form guides are written under content SEO; the answer structure is applied to those pieces too.
// How does it work and how long does it take?
A 30-question package takes 6 to 10 business days. First the target questions are chosen; no answer is written until the list is approved. Answer boxes and snippets are won as Google reprocesses the page, within 3 to 8 weeks; in week 8 the same question set is measured and boxes won and lost are reported.
Question research (2 to 3 days)
30 questions are chosen from Search Console, "People also ask" data and customer service records; current box holders are recorded
Approval (half a day)
The question list and placement plan are reviewed with you
Answer writing (3 to 4 days)
A direct answer is written for each question; those needing a table or step list are formatted separately
Placement and schema (2 days)
Answers are placed on pages, heading structure and schema set up and validated
Measurement (week 8)
Snippet, box and AI answer status is measured for the same 30 questions and the report delivered
// How is the price determined?
Three variables set the price: number of questions, whether answers need new pages or fit existing ones, and how much specialist knowledge the sector requires. 30 questions placed on existing pages and 80 questions needing 15 new Q&A pages do not carry the same workload, so we quote from the question analysis rather than a fixed list. A 10-question analysis is free and the quote is fixed once it is done.
In fields such as law, health and finance, answers pass through your expert's review and that step is added to the timeline. For customers on the Zep Bilisim AI plan, the first 30 questions are included.
// Results we have delivered
The three cases below represent different answer types. We do not share client names without permission, so sector and scale are given instead; figures come from the week-8 measurement and Search Console. In all three the existing ranking did not change; only the answer structure was added, and the result was measured with a Zep Bilisim report.
- Dental clinic, 30 questions — 4 of 30 questions had a snippet; 8 weeks after the answer structure, 19 questions won a snippet or "People also ask" box
- Accounting firm, 45 questions — Tax calendar and rate questions were answered in tables; zero-click impressions rose, yet form enquiries went up 34%
- Technical service, 25 questions — Step-list answers were marked with HowTo schema; within 3 months the site was the source in 11 voice assistant answers
Users no longer search for pages; they search for answers. Whoever gives the clear answer first owns the box, and usually the customer.
// The team behind the work
The work is carried out by Caner Zep Çelik, founder of Zep Bilisim. As founder and technical consultant he has worked on search visibility, content structure and web infrastructure since 2020 and has been involved in more than 100 projects. He does the question research, the answer structure and the schema setup himself and does not outsource the work.
The week-8 report is written by the same person: which question won which box, which was lost and which answer will be reworked. The report stays with you as the record of question-level visibility.
// When is it not needed?
If your pages already hold the snippets and boxes for the target questions, this work is unnecessary; we say so plainly in the 10-question analysis and do not sell it. If the site does not appear in the first two pages for the target searches at all, answer structure alone will not win boxes; classic ranking comes first and we set that order accordingly.
If customers in your sector do not ask questions but search directly for products, e-commerce SEO is the better address; we say so plainly in the analysis and point you there.
Google's featured snippets documentation explains from the official source how the answer box is selected and which content qualifies; our answer rules are built on it.
// Frequently Asked Questions
SEO ranks your page in search results; AEO carries the answer on your page into the results page itself, a voice assistant or an AI answer. AEO does not replace ranking, it builds on it: a page not on page one rarely wins an answer box either. The two are planned together, measured separately, and the analysis says which comes first.
For informational questions clicks may fall, but brand visibility and trust rise; for commercial questions the box converts directly into forms and calls. The question research classifies each question as informational or commercial and prioritizes the commercial ones. Measurement reports impressions, clicks and conversions together, so the decision rests on data.
A direct answer runs 40 to 60 words; Google and voice assistants prefer that length. Detail, a table or a step list follows beneath the answer, giving both the box and depth. For voice search a separate conversational version of 25 to 30 words is written and marked with Speakable schema.
Four sources: real question queries in Search Console, "People also ask" boxes, the questions your customer service and sales team hear most, and questions where competitors hold the box. The list is approved with you; no invented question nobody asks is added. Each question's search volume and current box holder are shown in the analysis.
Yes; FAQPage, HowTo and Speakable schema tell machines which question an answer belongs to and raise the odds of winning the box. Schema must match the visible text exactly; schema for hidden content is a penalty risk. After setup it is validated in Search Console's rich results report and any errors fixed.
Once Google reprocesses the page, snippet and box changes appear within 3 to 8 weeks; voice assistant and AI answers take 4 to 10 weeks. In week 8 the same 30 questions are measured and the report delivered. Questions that were not won are reworked; that second round is free and written in the quote.
