Off-Page SEO: Backlinks and Authority Building
Off-page SEO is the work of strengthening the signals outside your site: links from other websites, brand mentions, directory listings and industry visibility. The existing link profile is audited, toxic links are disavowed, and then editorial links are earned from industry sources. We do not use purchased or automated links; every link is listed with its source in the monthly report.
// Who is off-page SEO for?
Off-page SEO is for sites that lag behind competitors despite sound content and technical infrastructure. When two sites compete with similar content, Google's deciding signal is how much others trust each one, and that trust is measured through links; a profile with zero or toxic links pulls rankings down. If any of the following sounds familiar, you are on the right page.
- Fewer than 20 domains link to your site
- Links were purchased in the past and you fear a penalty
- Competitors are mentioned in industry publications and you are not
- Technical and content work is done but rankings are stuck between positions 5 and 15
We apply the same discipline to a local business and a national brand; only the source list and the monthly target change.
// What is included and what is not
Off-page SEO runs as a monthly plan; a one-off profile audit and cleanup is also available. The table below lists what each includes and what stays outside, line by line. Buying links, automated comments and private blog networks are used in no plan; that rule is written in the quote and closes the penalty risk from the start.
| Work | One-off audit | Monthly plan |
|---|---|---|
| Existing link profile audit | Included | Included |
| Toxic link list and disavow file | Included | Included |
| Competitor link profile comparison | Included | Included |
| Industry directory and resource listings | Excluded | Included |
| Editorial link acquisition (digital PR, guest articles) | Excluded | Included |
| Link-worthy content recommendations | Excluded | Included |
| Brand mention tracking and conversion to links | Excluded | Included |
| Monthly link report (source, date, status) | Excluded | Included |
| Link buying, private blog networks | Excluded | Excluded |
| Writing the link-worthy content | Priced separately | Priced separately |
| Press release distribution fees | Excluded | Excluded |
Content writing falls under content SEO; link-worthy content is planned from there.
// How does it work and how long does it take?
The profile audit takes 3 to 5 business days; the monthly plan then runs as a continuous cycle. Off-page SEO is slow work: the first editorial links are earned within 4 to 6 weeks and the ranking effect appears within 3 to 6 months. We write that timeline plainly in the quote; methods that promise faster results are penalty risks.
Profile audit (3 to 5 days)
Every link is crawled, scored for quality, toxic ones listed and compared with competitors
Cleanup and disavow (1 day)
Removal requests are sent for toxic links and a Google disavow file is prepared
Source plan (1 week)
Industry publications, directories and PR opportunities are listed and a monthly target set
Monthly acquisition cycle (continuous)
Sources are contacted, content is proposed and every earned link is reported
// How is the price determined?
Three variables set the price: how competitive the industry is, the state of the existing profile and the monthly link target. A local service site and a national e-commerce brand do not share the same source list or workload, so we quote from the profile analysis rather than a fixed list. The profile analysis is free and the quote is fixed once it is done.
The monthly plan has no contract, but we say up front that results should not be expected in under 3 months. We do not charge per link; the monthly work is what is billed. For customers on the Zep Bilisim SEO plan, this work is included.
// Results we have delivered
The three cases below represent different profile situations. We do not share client names without permission, so sector and scale are given instead; figures come from link tracking tools and Search Console. In none of the three was a single link purchased, and every source earned was listed by name in the Zep Bilisim monthly report.
- Architecture practice — 23 editorial links from industry publications in 6 months; the target query moved from position 11 to position 3
- Spare-parts store — 340 links bought by a previous agency were disavowed; traffic that had fallen came back within 4 months and exceeded the old level by 22%
- Education provider — Brand mentions were tracked and 18 of them turned into links; linking domains rose from 14 to 61
Buying links is like renting reputation: when the lease ends, or the landlord notices, you are left with nothing.
// The team behind the work
The work is carried out by Caner Zep Çelik, founder of Zep Bilisim. As founder and technical consultant he has worked on search visibility, content strategy and brand visibility since 2020 and has been involved in more than 100 projects. He selects the sources and handles publisher outreach himself and does not outsource the work.
The monthly report is written by the same person: which link was earned from which source on which date, which toxic links were disavowed, and how the number of linking domains moved.
// When is it not needed?
If the site is full of technical errors or the content is thin, off-page work is wasted; a link cannot lift a page that cannot be crawled or has nothing to say. If the profile analysis shows that, we recommend technical SEO or content work first and set the order accordingly; we do not sell the plan.
In low-competition local searches, a few directory listings and a Google Business Profile are usually enough; we do not recommend a monthly plan.
For on-page adjustments see on-page SEO, and for local businesses, where directories and profiles matter more than links, see local SEO. Link-worthy content is planned separately under content SEO. Google's link spam policy explains from the official source which methods are prohibited.
// Frequently Asked Questions
No, in no plan. Purchased, rented or automatically generated links are explicitly prohibited by Google and carry a penalty risk. Every link we earn is given by editorial decision: an industry publication, a directory, a guest article or a brand mention. The source name and date appear in the monthly report.
Depending on the industry and the existing profile, 2 to 8 editorial links a month is a realistic target, and the number is written in the quote. Because we do not charge per link, there is no pressure to inflate the count. What matters is not the link count but the number of linking domains and source quality; both are tracked in the report.
They can; bulk links bought in the past in particular are devalued by Google's spam systems or lead to a manual action. The profile audit lists those links, asks the sources to remove them and reports the rest to Google through a disavow file. If a manual action exists, a reconsideration request is prepared as well.
The first editorial links are earned within 4 to 6 weeks; the ranking effect appears within 3 to 6 months as Google processes the links. We do not use methods that shorten this because they carry penalty risk. The monthly report tracks link count, linking domains and target rankings together.
Yes, when there is something newsworthy; a new product, research data or an industry report suits digital PR. Writing the release is included, distribution service fees are not. A release without news value earns no links; we say so up front and propose an alternative source.
Yes. The profile audit lists the link sources of your 3 strongest competitors and flags the ones you lack; that list is the basis of the source plan. The report is handed to you and can be used in your own outreach. You choose the competitor list; we add suggestions based on data and write the reasoning.
